Judge Ashley Kibane is currently serving on the Cuyahoga County Court of
Common Pleas. She spoke about advocacy for the Domestic violence
docket and bail reform.
Judge William F. B. Vodrey was our main Speaker and he discussed
Donald Trump and the Rule of Law. Judge Vodrey began with a review of
the the Executive Orders issued over the past 10 months and posed the
question; “What can the courts do and Can we rely on the courts to do it?”
The answer is “Probably” Trump has not officially refused a court order yet
and has lost several cases so far. The courts can issue further orders for
criminal contempt by appointing special outside agents if he does refuse
to obey court orders. The ACLU has also sued the Trump administration
45x. The Judge recommends that we all do the following to guard our
democracy:
1. Stay informed 2. Get involved 3. Donate time or money 4. Vote and
register others to vote 5. Protest 6. Stay strong and Peaceful
Question: Will we have elections in 2026? Yes because;
1. 2. 3. States run election, Be a poll worker or watcher.
Country is too big to stop all elections
Don’t believe the lies or comply in advance4. We can still trust the courts most of the time
5. Find good information: NY Times, Politico, The Hill, Heather Cox
Richardson, Ezra Podcast - Indivisible
President Cami Ross Thanked Judge Vodrey for his excellent advice.

President Cami Ross continued the meeting with a review to the Local Election
Results in the 5 villages for both council and school board. Voter turnout was low
and we need to improve this for the midterms in 2026. North Royalton was very
successful this election cycle by providing mass education and building a strong
club to GET OUT THE VOTE. We can do the same to promote the 2026 elections
by building our membership now. Please volunteer!

Club Action for the Holidays: Donate to Cuyahoga Health and Human Services -
Hope for the Holidays. We voted in the November meeting to make this our club's
holiday donation recipient. There are over 2,000 children in foster care in Cuyahoga
County and foster families do NOT get additional funds for holiday gifts so they need
donations! Hope for the Holidays is their our annual gift program for children and teens
in foster care. Purchase a new gift from their Amazon and Target wishlists compiled of
requests from our children in foster care or buy a toy, game, book, etc. from your
favorite retailer. Deadline for donations is December 5th - come to the December
meeting and either bring $$/gifts or let us know if you've donated as a club action. We
can drop off gifts as a group from the meeting.
